About Us

The Midlands Community Development Corporation (MCDC) was originally incorporated in 1998 as the Bible Way Community Development Corporation (BWCDC), and  was approved for exemption as a non-profit organization under 501(c) 3 of the Internal Revenue Code.  The BWCDC started with the vision of helping others improve their lives and thereby improve the quality of the communities in which they live.

In February 2006, the board of directors voted to change the name from the Bible Way Community Development Corporation to the Midlands Development Corporation (MCDC) so that the service scope and reach of the organization would expand.

Purpose
To provide leadership support and services that develop, revitalize and sustain economic, social, and cultural structures for the improvement of distressed communities.

The MCDC's purpose involves community impact in five major areas:

  1. Education and Personal Development
  2. Health Care
  3. Employment
  4. Economic Development
  5. Housing

Markets Served
The target population served by the MCDC is geographically located east of the State Fair Grounds (29201 zip code), extending to the East Bluff communities (29209 zip code), and parts of lower Richland County, which includes Hopkins (29061 zip code).  MCDC is not confined by these boundaries, however, and provides services to households outside of these areas as well.

MCDC Subsidiaries
Several service units comprise MCDC.  These units either were formed or are managed by MCDC.  Subsidiaries, as they are called, are in place to carry out the purpose of MCDC for a variety of populations.  Learn more about the subsidiaries through links on the home page.
