Youth Voices of Lower Richland ~ Karen M. Dukes, M.Ed

Karen M. Dukes, M. Ed is an educator by profession. She earned a B.S. in Criminal Justice and a minor in Political Science from Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina. Additionally, she completed a Master of Education degree, with an emphasis in Community Education and Development from Cambridge College, Cambridge Massachusetts.

Ms. Dukes is currently employed by Richland School District One, and serves as the Program Director of Youth Voices of Lower Richland, a Teen Pregnancy Prevention program. She also directs the Teen Health Center. Ms. Dukes has directed such programs for the past seven years, specifically focusing on faith, school, and community-based organizations. Her major responsibilities include providing education and training to youth, parents and the community at large. To prevent teen pregnancies, she is committed to creating awareness, providing technical assistance in the areas of securing financial resources, generating social change in behaviors, ideologies and public policies.

Ms. Dukes has a profound sense of helping those in need and thirteen years ago, she created Advocate for You, a program designed to help underprivileged individuals navigate the court, social services, and unemployment systems. In her role as a consultant and facilitator, she works in various communities in the state of South Carolina, providing programmatic and organizational consulting, workshops, trainings, and conferences. Her strong sense of cultural awareness makes her easily adaptable to working with diversified groups, and speaking to a wide variety of audiences to include youth, parents, adults and the incarcerated.

Ms. Dukes is adept in facilitating an array of topics to include: life and job skills, court processes, teen health education and development, effective parenting, family planning education, community development, and grant writing. She is available for conferences and other speaking engagements.
