Dr. Helena Tillar

Professional Learning Specialist

Helena Tillar is the Professional Learning Specialist for the Life2/TSL grant, awarded to Midlands Community Development Corporation, Columbia, SC and Voorhees University, Denmark, SC.  She has devoted her career to advocating for high quality educational experiences and opportunities for students in impoverished areas.

Helena has extensive experience in Educational Leadership. Her recent activities include working as the liaison between professional development vendors and Calhoun and Orangeburg County School Districts. Vendors of the grant are: The New Teacher Project, Digital Promise (Sibme and Swivl), The Carnegie Foundation, Center for Educator Excellence, Voorhees University, Learning for Justice and Darden Curry School of Business, the University of Virginia at Charlottesville, VA.

Helena has served students in the public sector for over 35 years, in the capacity of band director, curriculum coordinator, principal, SC State Director of Curriculum and Standards, adjunct professor and Superintendent of Schools in Marlboro County School District, Bennettsville, SC.

Helena lives in Santee, SC.  During her leisure, she enjoys attending football games to watch the high-stepping bands perform at Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
