Call Me MiSTER Program

at SC State to Receive Award

Midlands Community Development Corporation recently awarded $90,000 to the South Carolina State University’s Call Me MiSTER program with funds from its LIFE2 grant. Since 2005, Call Me MiSTER has provided a pipeline of highly effective African American male educators to South Carolina’s public schools that serve their communities as mentors and role models. According to South Carolina State University, since 2004, nearly 400 MiSTERs have graduated, fully certified, and entered the classroom resulting in a 90% increase of Black male elementary teachers in South Carolina! Program Director, Anthony Brockington called the award “historic” for their program. The award will allow them to focus on advertisement and recruitment, student support, professional development, and field experience.
